A California Christmas

Our 2015 Christmas Tree - A California Christmas
Our 2015 Christmas Tree

This is our 2015 Christmas Tree with our stockings hung up by our fireplace that we only use this time of year for ambiance because we never use this room any other time of the year.  Its nice trying to create the same atmosphere that those who live in colder climates actually get.  Unfortunately the minute we step outside the magic is gone.  Its been a little nippy here but there are still people who are wearing shorts around town, surfers with boards on the roofs of their cars, and lots of bike riders riding up and down the strand.

Christmas doesn’t seem like Christmas when you go outside and the sky is blue and the plants are all green and the palm trees are swaying in the wind.  It just seems like any other time of year except just a little colder.  To counteract that I try to make it like Christmas inside my home with a fresh Christmas tree so that we can experience the smell of Christmas throughout the season.  Decorations all around the house so that nobody can forget it is Christmas when they come home because it is so easy to forget when they leave the house.

I also have reminders around my home of what the true meaning of Christmas is.  Yes we have a tree and gifts but we celebrate Mass.  We read the gospel of Luke and the cross of Christ is prominent throughout my home, particularly in my Falbos that I have written about before.  We never forget that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

We may not have the white Christmas sung by Bing so many years ago but I do my best to see that the spirit of Christmas exists in my home throughout the season and that the life of the child whose birth we celebrate remains a part of our lives each and every day thereafter.  Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
