Sachet Needs

Step 1: Cut out your Fabrics

Pin the heart pattern to your scrap fabric and cut two.  You can make the heart larger or smaller to suit your needs.  Cut a piece of lace that will go around the perimeter of your heart.  Cut a piece of ribbon either 4″-6″ long to serve as a hanger.  Mix 1/4 -1/2 cup of rice with 6-10 drops of essential oil depending on the size of your heart.  I used nearly 1/2 cup of rice for my heart and about 8 drops of essential oil.

Step 2: Place Right Sides Together

Place the two cut out heart pieces right sides together.  Place the lace between the layers and the ribbon at the top of the heart.  Sew around the perimeter catching all layers leaving a small opening to turn the heart and fill it with the rice mixture.

Step 4: Turn Right Sides Out

Once the heart has been sewn.  Turn it so it is right side out.  Use a funnel to pour the rice and essential oil mixture into the opening you left when sewing the heart.

Step 5: Stitch Opening Closed

Once the rice mixture is in the sachet sew the opening closed either by hand or on your machine.  Voila you are finished with a lovely and fragrant fabric heart sachet that will keep all of your clothes smelling fresh every day.  This is a perfect gift to give for Valentines Day or you can make other shapes like shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day or a simple shabby chic square is perfect for any occasion.

Step 2: Add the Ribbon

Place a piece of folded ribbon at the top of the heart between the two layers and sew around the heart on the right side leaving a space to fill the heart with the scented rice mixture.  Once the heart has been filled finish sewing around the heart and you are finished.

Sew the raw edge of the binding to the Heart shapes then fold the binding over and top stitch the binding making sure to catch both sides.  Leave space to fill the heart.  Once you have filled the heart finish the binding by folding under to raw edge at the end for a finished look and sewing the opening closed.
