Sewing for Him. Father’s Day is coming up on June 19, 2016 so I scoured the web in search of some great sewing projects for the men in your life.  I found eight terrific projects that range from easy to difficult that should appeal to just about every man. I hope you will give some of these a try instead of heading to your local mall and buying what everyone else is buying for their man.

Reversible Waistcoat

How to sew a reversible waistcoat

Our first stop is actually in the UK. I found this terrific vest pattern and tutorial at http://www.sewingbeefabrics.co.uk/how-to-sew-an-easy-reversible-waistcoat.  I love the bright chili pepper fabric used for this vest.  The pattern and tutorial are so simple. There are only three pattern pieces for the outer vest and three for the lining along with a few covered buttons.  You can make it as bright or dull as you like but you can make it in a snap.  While you are there, take a look at Sewing Bee Fabrics’ other free tutorials and information about a variety of sewing feet.

Easy to Sew Hoodie

I next headed over to Craftsylysh where I found Cal Patch’s super simple tutorial on how to make a hoodie.  She simply used T-shirts and hoodies she had on hand to create a “pattern” and sewed them together to create one easy to make hoodie. There are a lot of other easy to create patterns and tutorials over at Craftstylish if you want to take a look. Either way give this easy to make hoodie a try. You can find it at http://www.craftstylish.com/item/30695/how-to-make-a-mens-fleece-hoodie

Basic Boxers

I found these great basic boxers over at Craft Passion.  Joanne has provided a free complete pattern and tutorial for these boxer shorts Only 5 easy to sew pieces that can be printed in downloadable PDF format.  If you have never visited Craft Passion before you should really spend some time over there. You can find hundreds of free patterns and tutorials in all types of crafting genres.  You can start by having a little fun with this one.

King of the Grill Apron

King of the Grill Apron

I found this King of the Grill Apron over at All Free Sewing.  There is a pattern and basic tutorial that is easy enough for even a beginner.  There is a little bit of applique work here which you can change up to fit the man you are sewing for.  Maybe some flames or a bar-b-que would work instead of Dad.  There are many options.  Either way this is a simple grilling apron to get started on.

Driver Cover

Driver Cover

Here is a necessity for every golfer.  A driver cover you can make yourself.  Amy over at Positively Splendid came up with this terrific idea and created a pattern and complete tutorial on how to make it at her site.  She used marine vinyl in her project which makes it very easy to make.  I see no reason you couldn’t use fabric with heavy weight interfacing and lining to accomplish a different look or use some fusible vinyl on a golf themed fabric.  The sky’s the limit on this one.

Tripod Stool

Tripod Stool

This really isn’t a sewing project but I thought it was a very cool idea for the camping/hiking man in your life.  Matt over at Design Sponge created an easily portable tripod stool that you can make yourself with just a few tools that you can get at any hardware store.  Matt makes the seat out of leather but you could also use a heavyweight canvas or outdoor fabric as well.  This project takes a few DIY skills but it is worth giving a try.  Good luck here.

Zippered Dopp Kit

Of course there are always great patterns and tutorials over at my affiliate Craftsy.  This one is free and is the perfect pattern for a men’s Dopp Kit and can be found at http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2015/12/dopp-kit-tutorial/.  There are other free men’s patterns at Craftsy as well as those you purchase.  Some of the free ones are for ties, shirts, bow ties, and fabric watch bands.  I encourage you as always to head over to Craftsy for classes, tutorials, supplies and patterns even when you are sewing for him.
