How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
How to sew DIY luggage tags. Travel season is about upon us so I thought I would create this tutorial on how to make DIY luggage tags. You will never miss these suitcase tags on the luggage carousel when you use fun fabrics that stand out in a crowd. I, of course, used some fun remnants for my fabric luggage tags but if you don’t have a stash of remnants like mine head over to Fabric.com and Hobby Lobby to find exactly what you need for sewing DIY bag tags of your own. This is a beginner sewing project that can be created by anyone with basic sewing skills.
What you will Need:
- Luggage Tag Pattern
- Two 8″ x 8″ pieces of fabric
- One 4″ x 6″ piece of fabric
- One 3″ x 5″ piece of clear vinyl
- 1/4 yd Pellon 808
Interfacing - One eyelet and eyelet kit
- One 10″ piece of 1/8″ wide ribbon
- Standard sewing supplies
InterfacingStep 1: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Cut your fabrics from the luggage tag pattern as Follows:
- 2 main tag fabric pattern pieces A
- 1 of the pocket fabric from pattern piece B
- 2 Of the interfacing from pattern pieces C
- 1 of interfacing from pattern piece D
- 1 of clear vinyl from pattern piece E
Step 2: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Fuse the interfacing piece C to fabric piece A and interfacing piece D to fabric piece B.
Step 3: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Clip the inside corners of the pocket fabric piece B and press the seam allowances to the wrong side using the dashed line as a guide
Step 4: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Place the clear vinyl under the pressed edge and top stitch to the wrong side of the pocket at the inside folded edge.
Step 5: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Top stitch along the outside folded edge of one of the short sides of the vinyl/fabric pocket.
Step 6: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Place the pocket on top of one of the main tag pieces following the pattern placement guide.
Step 7: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Place the other main fabric piece on top of the pocket piece and main fabric piece right sides together. Sew around the outside of the interfacing.
Step 8: How to Sew DIY Luggage Tags
Turn the tag through the opening in the bottom. Fold under the raw edges at the bottom and top stitch all the way around the tag. Add a eyelet to the top of the tag following the pattern guide and slip a piece of ribbon through the hole. You have now learned how to sew DIY luggage tags. Just slip a card with your name and address and you are ready to go. You have finished your customized, personalized luggage tags. In the instructions it said to cut two pieces of pocket fabric, but you only used one. Where does the second piece come in?

Where are the pattern pieces for the luggage tag?
In the list of items that you need is a bolded pattern piece link. click on that and it will bring you to the PDF pattern pieces. Hope this helps.
