How to Make a 15 Minute Pom Pom Scarf

How to Make a 15 Minute Pom Pom Scarf

This is the easiest clothing project you can possibly make.  This 15 minute pom pom scarf is not only simple it is reversible.  You can choose whatever fabrics you like.  I chose remnants as usual.  My remnants included a brushed cotton houndstooth and a checked cotton.  Because I live in California I chose lightweight fabrics for my scarf but if you live in a colder climate you can choose heavier weight fabrics including wool.  This is a very versatile project.  I chose to embellish my scarf with pom poms but you can use any other embellishments that you like.  I almost chose a home decorator trim for my scarf but the cost difference between that and the pom poms prevented me from choosing that.  It would have been a nicer choice but the pom poms are nice too.

If you do not have fabrics on hand to make this quick and easy project I recommend that you head over to Hobby Lobby or Fabric.com to find the exact fabric for your pom pom scarf project.

What you will Need:

    • 3/4 yd of two different fabrics
    • 1 1/3 yd of pom poms or other trim
    • Standard sewing supplies

Step 1: How to Make a 15 Minute Pom Pom Scarf

Cut the two pieces of fabric the length that you want your scarf to be x 17″ wide. I made my scarf the width of my fabric x 17″ because I used remnants and was limited in the amount of fabric that I had but you can make yours whatever length you like.

Step 2: How to Make a 15 Minute Pom Pom Scarf

Place the two pieces right sides together.  Add the pom poms to the short ends of the scarf.  The pom poms come attached to a ribbon like fabric.  Place the edge opposite from the pom poms in line with the raw edges of the fabric and pin.

Using a 1/4″ seam allowance sew around the perimeter of the scarf making sure to catch the pom pom ribbon but leaving an opening on one of the sides for turning.

Turn the scarf right sides out and press.  Sew the opening closed using ladder stitch. You have now finished your 15 minute pom pom scarf.
