How to Make a Copper Dollar Tree Planter

I found this terrific metal planter at Dollar Tree but I didn’t want to leave it just the way it was.  Instead, I decided that a rust look would be perfect for this project.  I decided on rust because along with the succulents I planned on adding a ceramic mushroom.  The ceramic mushroom had rust colors in it so I decided to play on that.  In order to get the rust look I used spray paint. It really doesn’t get any easier than this and the results are terrific.

I obtained most of the items I used for this project at Dollar Tree. Some of the items I had on hand.  This post contains affiliate links that if you click on them and make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

What you will Need: How to Make a Copper Dollar Tree Planter

Step 1: Spray paint the planter

Spray paint the planter with the spray paint.

Step 2: paint and glue the feet

I got these wooden candle cups at JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores. I then painted them black using black acrylic craft paint and glued them on the bottom of the planter so that they were equal distance apart.

Step 3: Paint the letters and rim

Using the black acrylic paint go over the letters and paint the rim and bottom lip using a small paint brush or sponge brush.  This does not need to be perfect.  It should look a little antiquey.

Step 4: Plant the planter

Insert the foam into the bottom of the planter.  You can easily cut the pieces with a knife to fill the container. Pull out the succulents from the plastic pots an insert them into the foam until they fill 3/4 of the planter.  Add the ceramic mushroom. Surround the succulents with Spanish moss.  You have finished your Copper Dollar Tree Planter.
