How to Make a Credit Card Coin Purse

This little credit card coin purse is a fun and functional sewing project that is simple to make. It is similar to the small credit card holder I recently made but this one has a zipper for coins as well.  It is a little bit of an upgrade to the last one so I hope you like it. I really think this is a terrific little project.  This is a strong beginner project because of the zipper but if you take your time you should be able to put this little coin purse together without any problems. 

Use some fun fabrics for this credit card coin purse to truly make it your own.  For those of you that follow Sew Very Crafty you know that I have been making travel projects lately and this is perfect for travel. What you will Need: How to Make a Credit Card Coin Purse

• 1/4 yd outer and lining fabric
• 1/8 yd accent fabric
• 1/8 yd fusible fleece
• 4″ zipper
• 1 Kam snap

Step 1: Cut your Fabrics

• 2 pieces outer fabric and lining fabric that measure 5 1/8″ x 4″
• 1 outer and 1 accent piece that measure 5 1/8″ x 4 3/4″
• 2 accent fabric pieces that measure 1 3/4″ x 3 1/8″
• 2 fusible fleece pieces that measure 4″ x 3 1/8″ and 2 fusible fleece pieces that measure 4″ x 2″
• 1 fusible fleece piece that measures 1″ x 2 1/3″

Step 2: Fuse the Fleece

Fuse the two fleece pieces that measure 4″ x 3 1/8″ to the wrong sides of the outer fabric pieces that measure 5 1/8″ x 4″ following the manufacturer’s instructions.  

Step 3: Create the Pocket Pieces

Take the 5 1/8″ x 4 3/4″  accent piece and fold it right sides together in half widthwise and press.  Repeat for the outer piece. Fuse the 4″ x 2″ pieces of fleece along the folds and in the center of the pieces you just folded and pressed.  Stitch along the bottom of the accent piece and turn right sides out and press. Turn the outer piece right sides out and press.  Topstitch along the folds of both the outer and accent pieces.  

Step 4: Add the Pockets

Take the 5 1/8″ x 4″ piece and measure up from the bottom 1″ and mark.  Place the folded and stitched accent piece at that mark and pin.  Place the folded outer piece at the bottom of the 5 1/8″ x 4″ piece.  This will create two pockets.  Stitch along the bottom of the accent piece and the bottom of the outer piece.  Then stitch along the sides to create the pockets.  

Step 5: Create the Snap Tab

Take the 1″ x 2 1/3″ piece of fusible fleece and fold it in half lengthwise.  Round the top corners.  Fuse the fleece to one of the 1 3/4″ x 3 1/8″ pieces of accent fabric.  Place the accent pieces right sides together.  Stitch around the fleece leaving the bottom open.  Trim around the seam. Turn the tab right sides out.  Topstitch around the tab except for the bottom.  

Step 6: Add the Snap Tab

Find the center of the pocket piece you just created.  Place the tab piece in the center matching the raw edges.  Topstitch along the tab piece to secure.  

Step 7: Add the Zipper

Fold the ears of the zipper down and hand stitch them in place.  Place the zipper in the center top of the pocket piece right sides down.  Place a lining piece that measures 5 1/8″ x 4″ right sides down on top of the zipper making a zipper sandwich.  Using your zipper foot stitch the zipper through all layers.  Add the other side of the zipper to the remaining outer piece right sides down.  Layer the remaining lining piece right sides down on the zipper and stitch as before.Turn the zipper right sides out and press.  Topstitch along both sides of the zipper.

Step 8: Finish the Credit Card Coin Purse

Place the lining pieces right sides together and the outer pieces right sides together and pin.  Make sure that the zipper is open.  Stitch all the way around the coin purse using a 3/8″ seam allowance but leave an opening at the bottom of the lining for turning.  Turn the coin purse right sides out through the opening in the lining and the open zipper.  Ladder stitch the opening in the lining closed.  stuff the lining into the purse and zip closed.  

 

Step 9: Add the Kam Snap

Place one half of the Kam Snap on the snap tab. Place the other side on the outer pocket piece.  You can just place the tab piece down and mark where the other half goes.  Once the Kam Snap is on you have finished your credit card coin purse.   If you are unfamiliar with how to install Kasm snaps check out my video.
