How to Make a Fabric Christmas Ornament

It’s coming on Christmas and I decided to make some Christmas ornaments.  This idea popped into my head.  It is a super easy Fabric Christmas ornament.  This is a beginner sewing project that uses both machine and hand stitching.  It is a very quick and easy project to make so you can make many of them.  You can also embellish them with trim and ribbon if you like.  I prefer the simple look for my tree.

I used a Christmas fabric that I had on hand for my ornament. This snowflake fabric was purchased from JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores.  You could head to Hobby Lobby, Fabric.com or Onlinefabricstore.net to get exactly what you need for your fabric Christmas ornaments.  It is totally up to you.  This post contains affiliate links that if you click on them and make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you .  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Step 3: Stitch the top edges

Place two top edges right sides together and stitch using a 1/4″ seam allowance.  Repeat for the other two pieces. You should have two pieces with the tops sewn together.

Stitch upper edges

Step 4: Join the two pieces

Fold the cording in half and place it between the two pieces so it hangs between the right sides of the pieces.  Stitch the tops of the pieces together as shown.

Add the hanger and stitch the other two upper sides

Step 5: Stitch the bottoms

Stitch the bottom pieces together one by one until you have one left.  Leave an opening in the last edge for turning.

Stitch along the outsides
Stitch the other side

Step 6: Turn right sides out

Turn the ornament right sides out through the opening and poke out the corners using a chopstick or That Purple Thang.

Step 7: Close the opening and add the Jingle bell

Close the opening using ladder stitch.  If you are unfamiliar with ladder stitch check out this video.  Instead of tying off a knot at the end push your needle though to the center of the bottom and add the jingle bell to the bottom of the ornament. You have finished your fabric Christmas ornament.
