How to Make a Halloween Gnome

How to Make a Halloween GnomeHow to Make a Halloween Gnome

I just love these Halloween gnomes.  They are so cute and really add a punch to my Halloween decor. In fact, you can make these gnomes for just about any holiday.  This is a no sew project that anyone can make using a hot glue gun and a few craft supplies.  These gnomes are super simple to put together and take really no time at all to complete. Just follow the step by step tutorial and learn how to make a Halloween gnome of your own.

For this project I used an old short sock for the body of the gnome and some faux fur for the beard.  A round wood knob was perfect for the nose and some left over fabric was used for the hat.  You may have most of the items you need for this project on hand but for anything you don’t have you can head to Hobby LobbyJOANN Fabric & Craft Stores or Michael’s to get exactly what you need.  This post contains affiliate links that if you click on them and make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Step 1: Fill the Sock

Fill the sock with 2 cups of beans or rice for weight and the rest with polyester fiberfill.  Once the sock is filled tie the top with some twine or a tight rubber band.  I just left the excess sock material and stuffed it inside the hat.

Step 2:  Add the Beard

Print out the beard pattern and cut out the beard.  Make sure to just cut the backing of the fur and not the fur itself or you will not have the long beard in the front. Glue the beard onto the gnome body so that it is 3/4 of the way up the body.  Remember that the hat will cover the raw edge of the beard.

Step 3: Create the Hat

Print out the hat pattern and cut out the hat on the fold of the fabric.  Hem the bottom edge of the hat by folding it under by about 1/4″ and gluing using fabric glue or you can sew if you like.  I sewed mine.

Step 4: Add the Floral Wire

Glue the floral wire along one of the side edges of the hat and clip off any long ends. With the thin floral wire you can cut it with standard utility scissors.  Hem the other side edge and glue it to the edge with the floral wire making a dunce shaped hat. The reason I added the floral wire was to enable me to manipulate the shape of the hat. Hand sew or glue a jingle bell to the end of the hat.

Step 5: Glue on the Hat

Place the hat on top of the gnome body so that it covers the edges of the beard and glue it in place.

Step 6: Add the Nose

Glue the nose between the beard and the hat so that it is snuggled between the two.  Once you have added the nose you have learned how to make a Halloween gnome all your own.  How to Make a Halloween Gnome
