How to Make a Heart Fabric Bookmark

How to make a Heart Fabric Bookmark

I am an avid reader.  There is nothing like a good book in my opinion. But you can’t read them all in one sitting so a nice fabric bookmark is the way to keep your place.  Paper bookmarks get torn and lost but these heart fabric bookmarks are sturdy to constant use.  I love the heart shape. It is so fun and pretty.  This heart fabric bookmark is also super easy to make. It is a beginner sewing project that anyone with basic seine skills can make in just a few minutes.  They make perfect gift for readers, students and teachers.  This is a great scrap busing project as well.

I raided my scrap fabrics for this project. I urge you to do the same.  You could head to JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores, Hobby Lobby, Fabric.com or onlinefabricstore.net to get fabrics for your heart fabric bookmark but this is really a scrap fabric project so dig into your if you have some. This post contains affiliate links that if you click on them and make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

What you will need: How to Make a Heart Fabric Bookmark

Step 1: Cut your Fabrics

Using the pattern piece cut two heart shape pieces and a 3″ x 3″ square.  Measure 1″ from the point of one of the hearts and draw a line.  Cut along that line.  You should now have 1 full heart, a heart with the tip cut off and a square.  Fold the square into a triangle and press.

Step 2:  Layer the fabrics

Place your heart right sides up on your work surface.  Lay the folded triangle onto the heart piece.  Then place the trimmed heart piece right sides down onto the other two pieces and pin.

Step 3:  Stitch the Fabrics

Stitch the fabrics together all the way around.  Clip the curves.

Step 4:  Turn the Heart

Turn the piece right sides out through the heart shape that was trimmed.  Poke out all of the edges and press thoroughly. You will then have to turn the heart bookmark again by turning the pocket to the other side So that the raw edges are inside the pocket.  You have now finished your heart fabric bookmark.
