How to Make a Key Chain Coin Purse

How to Make a Key Chain Coin Purse

I have been looking for something to keep my headphones in so I will not lose them.  I also did not want to dig through my purse to try to find them so I thought that one of these handy little key chain coin purses would be perfect for what I needed.  It is just the right size to attach to my key chain and keeps my headphones close by.  I found that this little purse frame coin purse could be made exactly the same as any other purse frame project but it is just a little more fidgity because of the size. This project is just too cute for words and is the perfect scrap buster project as it doesn’t require much fabric.

I used a fat quarter that I had on hand for the outer fabric and a scrap that I had for the lining and I had a lot of fabric left over.  I added a little bit of Pellon 808 for structure but that was a scrap too. So this really is a scrap buster project.  The only purchase you need to make is the purse frame which you can get from Amazon. As an Amazon associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

What You will Need: How to Make a Key Chain Coin Purse

Step 1: Cut out your fabrics

Cut two pieces of outer fabric and two pieces of lining fabric using the attached pattern.  Cut two pieces of interfacing from the pattern but trim the interfacing by 1/4″ all the way around.  This is to prevent bulk in the seams.

Step 2: Fuse the interfacing

Following the manufacturers instructions fuse the interfacing to the center of the outer fabric pieces making sure there is 1/4″ seam allowance all the way around.

Step 3: Stitch the fabrics together

Sew the sides and bottom of the outer fabric and clip the curves. Turn right sides out.  Sew the sides and bottom of the lining fabric leaving an opening in the lining fabric for turning.

Step 4: Sew the lining to the Outer fabric

Place the outer bag inside the lining bag so they are right sides together.  Sew all the way around the top.

Step 5: Turn the bag

Turn the bag through the opening you left in the lining. Sew the opening closed using ladder stitch.

Step 6: Add the purse frame

I have a sew on purse frame that simply slides onto the top of the rounded opening of the bag.  To make sewing the purse frame easier I glued the frame to the bag using Guttermann’s glue.  You can use e6000 if you like.  Once the glue was dry I stitched the frame to the bag using the holes in the frame.  The glue is sturdy enough to hold the frame but I like the look of the stitching so I went ahead and stitched the frame to the purse.  You have now completed your key chain coin purse.
