How to Make a Simple Quilted Table Runner

I am not much of a quilter but I came across this simple quilted table runner on YouTube and thought to share it with you.  It Is truly a simple quilting project with beautiful results every time. This project is so easy any beginner sewist can create it.  It is reversible too.   Use you favorite decor fabric or go with some holiday fabric to make this simple quilted table runner truly special.  This quilted runner project is a quick and easy sewing project so you can make them for every season or holiday.  It is all about the fabrics for this project. For my quilted table runner I chose Christmas cotton fabrics and tassels from JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores. What you will Need: How to Make a Simple Quilted Table Runner

  • 1/3 yd accent fabric for center
  • 5/8 yd main fabric for border and back
  • 1/3 yd Fusible fleece like TP971F
  • 2 Tassels
  • Standard Sewing Supplies

Step 1: Cut your fabrics

Cut your accent fabric and fleece to measure 9″ x 44″ and your Main fabric to measure 18″ x 44″

Step 2: Fuse the Fleece

Fuse the fleece to the wrong side of the accent fabric following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 3: Stitch the accent fabric to the main fabric

Stitch the accent fabric to the main fabric along the long edge right sides together using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press the seam toward the main fabric.

Step 4: Stitch the other side of the main fabric

Fold up the other long edge of the main fabric so that it meets the other long edge of the accent fabric right sides together.  Stitch using a 1/4″ seam allowance.  and press the seam toward the main fabric. Turn the runner right sides out.  Press so that the accent fabric is in the center.

Step 5: Fold the Table runner

Place the tassel in the center of each short end so that it is facing toward the middle.  Fold the runner longwise right sides tougher and pin the short ends.  Stitch along the short ends using a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Step 6: Turn right sides out

Turn the runner right sides out an poke out the points.  Press.  Top stitch along the corner to secure,  Stitch in the ditch along the long seam.  If you are unfamiliar with stitching in the ditch it is simply to stitch in the channel of an existing seam so that that stitches cannot be seen.

Step 7: Quilt the Table runner

Stitch all three layers together in the center accent piece using any pattern you like.  I drew lines diagonally across the piece and used a wavy stitch on my machine as my quilting stitch.  You could just draw squares if you like.  I used a Tailor’s chalk to mark my lines but you could use a Frixion heat erasable pen if that works better.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
