How to Make an Insulated Coffee Cup Sleeve
I love to make reusable crafty projects. I came across this terrific little crafty sewing project over at Craftystaci.com and thought I would share it with you. Rather than using disposable cups purchase one that you can use everyday and sew up one of these terrific coffee cup sleeves to protect your hands and to make it extra fun in the process. This is a terrific scrap busting project and it is reversible too if you want it to be.
I delved into my remnant stash for the fabrics for this project but I urge to search you stash for fabrics for your project. If you need to purchase fabrics for this projects head to the remnant bin in your local fabric store. JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores and Hobby Lobby have terrific remnant bins that contain cotton fabrics that are perfect for this project. They are 50% off as well. What you will need: How to Make an Insulated Coffee Cup Sleeve
- Pattern you can Get Here
- 2 different or remnants or fat quarters of cotton fabric
- Insulbright
- ___” piece of round elastic
- 1 – 2 buttons
- Standard sewing supplies
Step 1: Cut your Fabrics
Using the fabrics cut two pieces of fabric and a piece of insulbright.
Step 2: Layer the Fabrics and Elastic
Place the insulbright on your work surface. Place one piece of fabric right sides up on top of the insulbright. Fold the elastic in half and clip it to the fabric and insulbright. Lay the second piece of fabric wrong sides down on top of the other fabric, elastic and insulbright.
Step 3: Stitch the fabrics together
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance stitch all the way around the sleeve leaving an opening at the bottom for turning. Stitch over the elastic several times for strength.
Step 4: turn the sleeve
Turn the sleeve right sides out and press. Top stitch all the way around the sleeve making sure you close the opening along the way.
Step 5: Add the button
Lay the sleeve flat and fold both sides in so the edges meet. Pull the elastic to it’s farthest point without actually stretching the elastic and mark. Sew the button here. If you want to make this reversible, sew another button in exactly the same place on the other side. Wrap the sleeve around your cup and enjoy.
