It is almost time to celebrate the birth of our nation on July 4th.  It is a day of bar-b-ques and merrymaking, fireworks and patriotism.  I thought it appropriate to search the web for some great ideas for hosting a fun July 4th party of your very own from apparel to decorations, food and games.  I hope you enjoy these great finds and visit some of these other websites for additional great ideas.

Now that you are decked out in Old Glory its time to decorate using the red, white and blue.  I came across so many great ideas but I could only pick a few so here they are.

Here is any easy to make patriotic wreath from Home Crafts by Ali. Ali does a wonderful job of creating a simple but elegant wreath that anyone can recreate.  She provides an excellent step by step tutorial on making this one-of-a-kind wreath.  I urge you to take a look at Ali’s site and try out some of her delicious recipes while you are there.

Jenn over at Princess Pinky Girl made my life easy by creating her post Red White and Blue Decor.  She provides terrifically vibrant photos and links to tutorials to all of these great holiday decor ideas.  Her site provides a lot of crafting and recipe ideas so head on over try them out, especially the ones for the upcoming July 4th celebration.

Fun and Games

You can’t have a July 4th party without some fun and games so while cruising the net I found some great games to set up while waiting for the food to come out.

What you will Need:

  • 120 Grit sand paper
  • 1 Wax paper lined tray
  • Craft paint (red, white and blue)
  • Small embroidery hoops (4 hoops per player)
  • Foam brush
  • Gue gun & glue
  • Jute twine or yarn
  • 12 glass Or plastic bottles
  • Pliers
  • Spray paint (blue)
  • 2 Small wood crates
  • Assorted wood stars

I don’t know whom to attribute this idea but I loved it.  It looks pretty self explanatory so I won’t waste any time here.  If you have questions, I am sure I can answer them just put them in the comments and I will be sure to get back to you.

Have some great fun playing Tic Tac Toe.  All you need is some rope and some wood Xs and Os.  Paint the Xs with red stripes and the Os with blue stripes and you have a fun game fit for a 4th of July party.  The image is courtesy of Target.

How about a bean bag toss courtesy of Charles Hudson.  There is a complete tutorial on the Charles and Hudson website on how to build this awesome backyard game.  There are some carpentry skills involved but it is definitely worth a try.

Setting the Table

There are dozens of ideas on how to set a table for your July 4th party so I picked out just a few.

You all know how much I love Mason Jars so here is just another way to paint them and to use them.  The image is courtesy of Michelle at Crafty Morning but the tutorial on how to paint Mason Jars is mine and you can find it by clicking the link.  For this one tape off the stripes and cut stars from tape and mask off the stars.  Super easy.

Here is an adorable center piece for your 4th of July table brought to you by Kim at Today’s Creative Life.  There is a complete tutorial but it is super easy to do.  All you need is 3 glass jars some red and blue food coloring and a few daisies.  Put them together and you have a simple but elegant center piece.

I thought this was a terrific idea.  This is a hot dog bar equipped with hot dogs, buns and condiments.  Emily over at B. Lovely Events has a whole host of burger and dog bars that are perfect for the summer season.  I urge you to take a look.  They are really terrific.

FOOD

Of course there are the hot dog and hamburger bars proposed by Emily at B. Lovely Events but there are also many other fun treats perfect for celebrating on the 4th.

These are fun and healthy 4th of July Firework Fruit Kabobs created by Anna over at The Baby Bump Diaries.  She has a terrific website that is devoted to being a mom in New York City.  It is a terrific blog so spend some time over there if you can or just create these fun and delicious fruit kabobs for your 4th of July do.

These Strawberry Fruit Kabobs are just one of many great 4th of July ideas by the folks at DIY Ready.  DIY Ready is a terrific web site that has recipes craft turorials and other how to’s.  Their 4th of July party section includes 25 ideas for food and decoration.  Head over there if you have time.

Here is a terrific delicious and healthy red, white and blue salad that is perfect for a July 4th bar-b-que.  This idea came directly from Roni over at GreenLiteBites and is the perfect accompaniment to fun filled day.

I don’t know who to attribute this too but it is a cheesy idea.  Take some crackers, cheese, and cooked meats and arrange them in the form of a flag.  It is that simple.  Great while waiting for the Que.

This is a super easy and inexpensive way to serve a lot of people brought to you by Sabrina at Dinner, then Desert.  In this one, Sabrina changes things up by using Hawaiian bread buns for just a little bit of sweetness.  I like spicy bar-b-que sauce myself so all together with the coleslaw mmmmmm.  Give it try.  I promise you will love it.

While we are grilling, how about throwing on some corn.  I love fresh corn on the cob and Genevieve over at Mydomaine.com has a wonderful recipe for chargrilled corn that is perfect for your celebration.  Another finger food that pairs well with the other foods on the list.

Now its time for a little desert.  Lets start out with some Patriotic Rice Krispy Treats by Marie at Blooming Homestead.  These are a tradition in my family and Marie has cut them into stars, added food coloring, and placed them on patriotic straws for that 4th of July feel.  Another finger food perfect for the occasion.
