Need a padded DSLR Camera Cozy?  Here is a terrific tutorial and pattern to make it.  I was looking recently for a camera case that I could bring on a trip that would cover my Nikon D3200 with a standard 18-55mm zoom lens.  I came across a few on Etsy to purchase but was convinced I could make it myself.  Of course I was right and I am sharing the pattern and tutorial with you.  Remember if you need fabric for his project I encourage you to head over to Fabric.com or Hobby Lobby to get exactly what you want. What you will Need:

Step 1: Print the Pattern

Print the pattern and tape the pages together using the diamond to line it up.  Cut out the pattern and pin it to both the outer and lining fabrics and cut out the pattern. Because this pattern is cut on the fold, you have to sides that are the same. Cut one of the sides along the line where you taped the pattern together.

Step 2: Fuse the Foam

Fuse the foam to the outer fabric.  Sew the foam interfacing on top of the fleece.

Step 3: Stitch the Half Cut Pieces

Sew the outer half-cut side right sides together with the lining half-cut side using 1/4″ seam allowance. This will give you two long pieces attached at the center seam.

Step 4: Stitch the Main Body Piece

Fold the outer piece in half right sides together as shown and the lining piece in half right sides together as shown.  You will see the half-cut piece meets the longer piece about half way up and the flap sides overlap.  Sew the sides of the outer fabric together and the lining fabric together leaving the flap sides unsewn.

Step 5: Turn the outer piece

Turn the outer piece right sides out.  Leave the lining side wrong side out.  Push the right side of the outer piece into the right side of the lining piece just like you would do in bag making.  This will result in the right sides of the flaps facing each other.  Sew the flap sides together leaving the top of the flap open for turning.

Step 6: Tuen the Camera Cosy

Pull the outer piece through the top of the flap opening until the whole cozy has been turned.

Step 7: Top Stitch the Camera Cozy

Fold under the raw edges of the flap opening and top stitch all the way around the cozy flap and opening.

Step 8: Add the Snap

Add a heavy duty snap or sew on Velcro to act as a closure.  Measure down 3″ from the half-cut side in the center and place half of the snap or a piece of Velcro.  Measure up 3/4″ from the top of the flap and place the other snap piece or Velcro piece.  Put the camera inside and close. You can make a coordinating  camera strap by following my camera strap tutorial.
