Wrist Cuff Key Holder

If you are a walker or jogger this wrist cuff key holder is perfect for you.  It fits snugly around the wrist and the zippered pouch is the perfect size to carry a key.  You can even make it wider if you would like to carry ID and a little money.  This super simple pattern makes carrying a few necessities easy and hands free.  Add some fusible vinyl to make this project water resistant.

What you will Need:

  • Two 10″ x 3″ fabric scraps for the exterior of the cuff
  • Two 10″ x 3″ fabric scraps for lining
  • One 7″ zipper
  • Fusible Vinyl
  • Fusible interfacing like Pellon 808.

Step 1: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Using scraps or other fabric of your choice cut two 10″ x 3″ fabric scraps for the exterior of the cuff and two for the lining.  If you want to add identification to your cuff you should make it wider than 3″.

Step 2: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Fuse the vinyl to the exterior fabric pieces following the instructions on the package. Fuse the interfacing to one of the lining pieces.

Step 3: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Lay one of the outer fabrics face up and then the interfaced lining piece face down on top.  Measure 1″ from the top and draw your box to insert the zipper.  The box should be centered on the interfacing and measure 6″ long by 3/8″ wide.  Draw 1/2″ triangles at the end of the box and draw a line down the middle.  Sew around the box.  You can also follow my tutorial on how to add a zippered pocket.

Step 4: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Using scissors or a seam ripper cut along the center line through all layers making sure that you do not cut the triangles.  Cut the legs of the triangles until you meet the stitching line making sure you do not cut the thread.

Step 5: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Push the interfaced lining piece through the slit that you have created so that the two lining pieces are right sides together.

Step 6: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Sew around the lining pieces making sure that you do not catch the exterior fabric. This creates the pocket.

Step 7: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Place the second 10″ x 3″ piece of outer fabric right sides together with the zippered piece. Sew around the exterior leaving an opening at the bottom for turning.  Clip the corners.

Step 8: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Turn the cuff right sides together and push the corners out with a poking tool.

Step 9: Wrist Cuff Key Holder

Sew pieces of Velcro to opposite sides of each end of the cuff so that you can secure it when you place it around your wrist.  Once the Velcro is added the wrist cuff is complete. Place your key into the cuff and head off down the road.
