I Love my Falbos

Standing on the Word

I have always loved art.  I often go to art museums when I have the chance and am fascinated by the talent, perspective, and genius possessed by artists throughout the ages.  Like many people, I was awed by da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Vermeer. I have always particularly been drawn to the Impressionists like Monet, Manet, and Van Gogh until one day I was at the National Gallery in Washington DC and they were presenting an exhibit of one of Picasso’s works from its initial sketches through to the final oil on canvas.  I remember being riveted by the work.  Of course I had seen numerous photographs of Picasso paintings but I never saw an original Picasso until that day.  Photographs do not in any way represent the true mastery of the artist.  It wasn’t until I saw the paintings in person that I saw what others saw.  From then on my entire point of view on art shifted. I finally understood what Cubists, modernists and more contemporary artists had to say.   I decided that I wanted to put some of this art in my home so that I could enjoy it everyday.  Of course buying a Picasso was a little out of my price range so I looked on-line and came across an artist that combines the art that I have come to love and the faith that is so important to me. His name is Anthony Falbo. I have purchased many of his paintings and prints and I love them all.  I hope I will be able to buy more including the one that started this post now that my children are out of college but I will have to wait to see if there are any raises in my future.  Regardless, I enjoy the Falbos that I have every single day and I hope that you will too when you have the opportunity to see his work.

The Way It Use To Be

According to his website www.falboart.com Anthony Falbo, born May 17, 1953 in Flint Michigan, started expressing himself with art at a very young age.  Fascinated with several master painters such as Rembrandt, Michelangelo, and Picasso, Falbo studied and learned from there works of art.

For many years Anthony was blessed making his living by painting portraits.  In 1995 he took his family to Florida where he continued to paint portraits and started his first series of work called The Light And Dark.  The Light And Dark Series was five years in the making.  It was a spiritual way to look at the light and dark or good and evil things in our world.  Most of the original paintings in this series were very large created in a Surrealist Style.  As God has used symbolism in his language of expression, so symbolism is used throughout the series connecting many of the paintings together.

In the year 2000 the Cubestraction Series was born.  Working in the cubestraction style gave Falbo even more freedom to express himself.  Cubestraction meaning flat, but sometimes not, realistic but abstract cubist but cartoonist.  Falbo’s goal with each painting within this series is to create a colorful work of art with a simple composition that portrays different events in life with a variety of subjects such as inspirational, music, sports, animals and people.  This style gives Falbo a chance to take things to the extreme.  The Cubestraction series to date is by far the most popular series of work so far.

I was immediately drawn to all of his works.  I began to communicate with his wife Carmella about purchasing a painting.  At the time I simply could not afford to purchase an original oil so Carmella suggested an artist embellished giclee printed on canvas.  A giclee is a fine art print made on an inkjet printer.  A giclee that has been artist enhanced is a print that has been printed using an inkjet printer but then has been hand painted on portions of the print by the artist.  This sounded perfect for me and my budget.  I was able to go through Anthony’s entire catalogue of work and pick the print that I wanted and he hand painted portions for me. I couldn’t wait to get it in the mail.  I was not disappointed.  It was stunning.  I remember having it framed and hanging it over the fireplace in my bedroom where it still hangs.

My Broken Heart

I chose this painting because my daughter moved to England to go to college and I was heartbroken.  It fit my mood perfectly and I still love it.  After a time, I was finally able to purchase an original oil.  I again spoke to Carmella about the painting and told her the one I wanted.  She immediately got it into the mail to me and like a child on Christmas my heart was pounding the minute it arrived and I opened the box.  The painting was exactly as I had envisioned it.  Like the Picasso I saw at the National Gallery, the photos in the internet did not do it justice.  I absolutely love it.  I immediately hung it in my family room where it continues to hang and I can see it everyday.  The painting is called Dinner and a Movie and it reminds me of my husband and me.  The scene is perfect and the colors are beautifully vibrant.  It seems like a new experience every time I see it.  I don’t think I will ever tire of it.

Since purchasing this painting I bought a print for my office, a print for my family room, a print for my son’s bathroom, a print for my bathroom, a print for my daughter’s room and a print for my laundry room.  The prints are very reasonably priced so I was able to purchase all of them. Some of my prints are signed and some are not.  The price differs on the signed ones and of course it always depends on my financial situation as to which ones I can purchase.  The print for the laundry room is the Way it Use to Be which I will talk about when I discuss my laundry room project in a later post.  I purchased Above All Names, Yachts for Sale, Ready in a Minute, Can’t Sleep, and Order in the Court, Side Bar. Of Course Order in the Court, Side Bar was for my office.  Can’t Sleep was perfect for me because it reminded me of me and my dog before she passed away.  I have a sleep disorder so she and I were often up late at night when everyone else was asleep.  It was perfect.  I only wish I had the original of this one.  Oh well.

I love all of my Falbo prints and they still hang where they were intended.  The next Falbo original painting I was able to purchase was actually through a third-party art dealer’s wife who was selling the dealer’s estate.  She was selling it on eBay and I was lucky enough to have the highest bid.  I was stunned that I was able to purchase this painting.  The painting is called Three Virgins.  I am absolutely thrilled to own it.

Three Virgins is hanging in my family room where I get to see it everyday.  The last painting I purchased is a very large original oil on canvas that I saved up for and hoped he would not sell before I was able to purchase it.  Fortunately, I live in a townhouse and the ceilings in our bedroom are vaulted so a large piece of art is perfect for the space.  The painting is called Come Follow Me.

This painting is stunning.  I see it the minute I walk into my bedroom.  The message is unmistakable and the story is uplifting.  The colors are vibrant and the faces each tell a story of their own.  The joy in the faces of those who have made it is undeniable.  I am not an expert on art or an art critic.  I am just an average person who likes art and has found an artist whose work really speaks to me.  I feel fortunate to have found such a talented artist who produces some original works that I can afford and prints that I can always afford and whose work never gets old or stale.   I love this painting but then again I love all of my Falbos and even the one’s I don’t own.
