Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set

Here is a terrific handmade Christmas spa gift set with a peppermint twist.  Each of the four products in this set is easy to make, has just a few ingredients, and smells of peppermint for the Christmas season.  Of course you can use different essential oils for different times of the year to make these terrific beauty products but I thought the peppermint was particularly appropriate for Christmas time.  

The Gift Set includes a luxurious coconut oil hand cream, sultry peppermint bath salts, convenient peppermint lotion bars and a perfect peppermint sugar scrub packaged in a cute peppermint covered round quilted, zippered bag from the Stitching Scientist.  The pattern for this bag is free from Craftsy and includes a complete tutorial.  Together these four beauty items make for a beautiful Christmas gift for family and friends or for yourself.  Lets get started.

Coconut Oil Hand Cream

What you will Need: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set

• Amount of coconut oil you would like to make into cream
• 1/4 tsp vitamin e oil
• Several drops of peppermint essential oils or other scent to get to the desired fragrance
• Red Food Coloring
• Mason Jar Lid Labels
• Ribbon

Step 1: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Coconut Oil Hand Cream

Scoop out the amount of coconut oil that you would like to turn into cream and place it into a mixing bowl and using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer.  Mix it at medium-high until smooth and creamy or for between 5-10 minutes. I whipped mine for 7 Minutes.

Add 1/4 tsp of vitamin E which acts as a preservative and as many drops of the peppermint essential oil as you like to reach the fragrance that you want.  I also added 3 drops of red food coloring so that it would have a pink color to match my peppermint theme.

Step 3: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Coconut Oil Hand Cream

Peppermint Bath Salts

What you will Need: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set

• 1 Cup Baking Soda
• 5 Cups Epsom Salts
• 3 Cups Kosher or Sea Salt
• Peppermint Essential oils
• Food Coloring

Step 1: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Peppermint Bath Salts

Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl.  This combination of ingredients is the soothing bath salts.

Add peppermint essential oils to the bowl of salts until you have the fragrance intensity that you would like.

Separate half of the salts and set aside.  Take one half and add drops of red food coloring until you get the pink color you like.

Using a glass jar, layer the pink salts with the white salts for a nice peppermint candy look.  Add it to your other spa products.

Peppermint Lotion Bars

What you will Need: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Peppermint Lotion Bars

• 1/4 cup coconut oil
• 1/4 cup shea butter
• 1/4 cup bees wax
• 1/4 tsp vitamin e oil
• peppermint essential oils
• Food Coloring
• silicone mold

Step 1: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Peppermint Lotion Bars

Using a double boiler or a bowl over a pan with water melt the coconut oil, Shea butter, and beeswax together.  Once it is in a liquid state add 1/4 tsp vitamin E oil as a preservative and stir well.

Let the mixture cool slightly and while it is in its liquid state add about 20 drops of peppermint essential oils or whatever other scent you desire and mix well.

Pour the mixture into your silicone molds and allow to harden.  Once they have hardened remove them from the mold and place them in a glass container or mason jar and add to your other spa products.

Peppermint Sugar Facial Scrub

•  1/2 cup coconut oil
• 1 Cup Sugar
• 1/2 tsp peppermint essential oils

Place the coconut oil into a bowl or stand mixer and mix for 6-8 minutes until creamy.

Add the sugar, peppermint essential oil and vitamin E and blend for a minute or two.  Scoop into a glass or mason jar and close to seal.  Add to your other spa products and make them look Beautiful.

Package all of your spa items in a quilted round bag.  I used a free pattern from my affiliate Craftsy that was perfect for this project.  You can get it here.  Because this is a Christmas project I changed to fabrics that are Christmas themed and are reminiscent of my peppermint theme.

Options:

Bath Salt and Facial Scrub Snowman.

What you will Need: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Option 1

Use two jars of different sizes. I used a 1 pint jar and 1/2 pint jar.  Add the Bath Salts or another one of your spa recipes to the larger jar and the Facial scrub or another of  your spa recipes to the smaller Jar.

Glue three felt circular shapes to the larger jar to act as coal buttons.  Add two more felt circles to the smaller jar for eyes and an orange triangle for the carrot nose.   Cut a doughnut shaped circle to use as a hat brim around the smaller top jar.

Use a piece of sticky back Velcro to attach the small top and the larger bottom.  Place a piece of ribbon around the bottom jar’s lid to act as the snowman’s scarf and you are now finished.

Step 3: Handmade Christmas Spa Gift Set: Option 2

There was a lot of bath salts left over from the original recipe so Had this lidded jar on hand and layered the pink and white peppermint bath salts to make a nice layered look.  With the red cap, this project is easy and a Christmas must.
