I love reusable gift bags. They save paper and trash and can be reused year after year. This Christmas gift bag is so simple any beginner sewist can make it in minutes. You can make these for yourself or to sell. Either way they come together quickly and provide that little added touch to your gift giving this year as it is also a gift. What you will Need: How to Make a Simple Christmas Gift Bag
- 12 1/2″ x 22″ piece of main fabric
- 2 pieces of 12 1/2″ x 4″ accent fabric
- Hot iron
- Standard sewing supplies
Step 1: Cut the Fabrics
Cut three pieces of fabric. Cut the main fabric 12 1/2″ x 22″ and two accent fabric pieces 12 1/2″ x 4″.

Step 2: draw the Handle
Place the accent fabric to both short ends of the main fabric and pin. Find the center of the accent fabric and make a mark. Draw a 3 1/8″ x 1″ rectangle. Find the lengthwise center of the box and draw a line starting and sipping 1/2″ from each end. Add a triangle to the ends of the line.

Step 3: Create the Handle
Stitch all the way around the box. Cut the line and the triangles. This is similar to adding a zipper to a handbag. Fold the long raw edges of the accent fabric in by 3/8″. Push the accent fabric through the opening you just created and press. Turn to the wrong side. Fold the main fabric raw edge down 3/8″ and place the folded edge of the accent fabric on top. Stitch around the opening using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Then stitch the top and bottom of the main fabric piece using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat for both ends.

Step 4: Stitch the Bag
Fold the bag in half widthwise and pin. Stitch the sides using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Turn wrong sides out. Stitch the sides using a 3/8″ seam allowance. You are creating a French seam.

Step 5: Finish the bag
While still wrong sides out fold the sides 2″ to the center. Stitch along the bottom by 1/4″ seam allowance. Turn right sides out and press. You have now finished your super simple Christmas gift bag.
