I have been creating so many Christmas projects that I thought it was time to change it up for the next holiday, Valentine's Day. With several packages of wood dice it was time to put them to use. I have a hoard of wood pieces from Dollar Tree and I really needed to put them to use. Valentines tic tac toe seemed perfect. This project comes together pretty quickly once you have your Dollar Tree pieces. So, head to Dollar Tree for everything you need. What you will Need: How to Make Valentines Tic Tac Toe
- 4 12″ x 2″ pieces of wood
- 1 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ square piece of wood
- 4 packages of 3 wood dice (I purchased my dice from Dollar Tree but could not find a link.)
- Pink Paint
- White Paint
- Hot glue
- Wood glue
- Mini table saw or hand saw
- Clamps
- Stamps
- Stamp ink
- Ribbon
Step 1: Cut the Wood
Cut two of the 12″ x 2″ pieces into 5 1/2″ lengths. Cut two pieces that measure 6 1/2″. These pieces will form the box around the wood square. Cut two 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ pieces for the cross members. Finally, cut six pieces that measure 1 5/8″ x 1 1/2″.

Step 2: Paint the Wood Pieces
Paint each of the outer wood pieces using a checker board pattern in pink and white paint. I chose to use chalk paint for all of the wood pieces making up the box and the inserts.

Step 3: Create the Box
Using both hot glue and wood glue attach the 5 1/2″ pieces on the opposite sides of each other. Once the glue has set add the 6 1/2″ pieces to the remaining sides in the same manner.

Step 4: Create the Inside of the Box
Measure 1 5/8″ from one side of the box and add one of the 5 1/2″ cross members using hot glue and wood glue. Measure over another 1 5/8″ from that piece and add another 5 1/2″ piece. Once those pieces have set add the additional pieces. Measure down 1 5/8″ from one side of the square perpendicular to the cross members and glue in the same way. Add the remaining pieces in the same way until you have a box with nine compartments.

Step 5: Paint the Dice
Paint half the dice pink and half white. I used chalk paint again for a nice smooth coverage. I painted 12 dice so that there are six of each color.

Step 6: Add the emblems
On the pink dice add a white X using a Dollar Tree stamp. It is up to you whether you want to add the X to all sides of the dice. On the white dice add a pink heart to act as the O in tic tac toe. Again, you can decide if you want to add the heart to all sides.

Step 7: Add the Ribbon
Add some Valentine's ribbon all the way around the outside of the box. Secure it using hot glue. Once the ribbon is added you have finished your Valentines tic tac toe.
