Mason Jar Sewing Kit

I decided that my son needed his own sewing kit to do basic mending.  When he went off to college I taught him basic sewing skills so that he could sew on buttons and repair hems and do basic mending. Now I have decided to give him his own mason jar sewing kit so that he has simple tools handy to fix simple things.  As most of you know, I love mason jars.  You can make so many useful things out of them so I decided to put together this sewing kit with its own pin cushion.

Step 1:Mason Jar Sewing Kit

Using your painters tape, mask off parts of your mason jar to make whatever pattern you like.  I decided to make a simple stripe pattern in red to match the fabric I used for the pin cushion. Spray paint the jar.  Once the paint has dried completely, remove the painters tape.  Then place stick on letters or use a stencil to write “Sewing Kit” on the Jar.  I used a stencil that I made myself using http://online.rapidresizer.com/make-name-patterns.php.  The free version does not allow you to resize the stencil.  If you use this website and want a different size there is a charge.  I used the free version.

Next, take the fiberfill and roll it into a ball shape.  Cut a square of scrap fabric and cover the fiberfill and glue the fabric to secure.  Once the glue has dried place a fabric circle to cover all of the raw edges. and glue it onto the removable lid of the Mason Jar.  After the glue has dried, place the removable lid with the fiberfill and fabric into the lid of the jar.  This serves as the pin cushion.

Step 3: Mason Jar Sewing Kit

Fill your mason jar with your sewing supplies and close using the pin cushion lid.  Then you are finished.  You have a nice portable mason jar sewing kit.
