How to Make a Simple Fabric Easter Basket

Easter is just around the corner so I really wanted to make a Fabric Easter Basket. This is such a simple project with that Easter wow factor. Literally anyone can make this project and it is perfect for Easter eggs and candy. This is a beginner sewing project so get some cool Easter fabric and let’s get started. What you will Need
Step 1: Cut the Fabrics
From the outer and lining fabrics cut one 18 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ square. Cut 2 18 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ squares of Pellon 808. Then, cut one outer and lining piece that measures 2″ x 24″lining and a piece of Peltex that measures 1 1/2″ x 24″ for the handle.
Step 2: Fuse the Interfacing
Fuse the Pellon 808 pieces to the outer and lining fabrics using a hot iron and following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 3: Box the Corners
Fold each square in half right sides together. On the folded sided measure up 3″ and across 3″. Mark. Draw a diagonal line joining the two marks. Stitch across that line. Repeat for the other side and the lining. Trim off the corner leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Now, fold the fabrics in half the other direction and repeat the process. You should have an outer and lining fabric with the corners boxed.




Step 4: Create the Handle
Place the handle pieces right sides together. Stitch along the two long sides using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Turn right sides out and press. Topstitch along the long sides. Cut a 22″ x 1″ piece of the pool noodle. Insert it inside the handle.




Step 5: Stitch the Fabrics
Place the outer and lining baskets right sides together. with the handle in between Stitch all the way around the top using a 1/4″ seam allowance but leaving an opening for turning.

Step 6: Turn Right Sides Out
Using the opening you left in the basket turn the pieces right sides out. Push the basket lining fabric inside the outer fabric.

Step 7: Top Stitch
Topstitch all the way around the top of the basket making sure to enclose the opening.

Step 8: Fold Down the Corners
Fold down the corners so that the point is in the center of the side. Tack in place.

Step 9: Add the Handle
Place the handle ends on opposite sides of the basket in the center. Fold under the raw edges and and tack in place at the top and the center.

Step 10: Add the Bunnies
Hot glue the bunnies to the center of the corners to cover the tack stitch. Fill the basket and you are finished your simple fabric Easter basket.
