How to Make DIY Christmas Tree Decor
I saw this project on Facebook and had to share it with you. It is a super simple Christmas Tree craft that anyone can make using shims, Dollar Tree embellishments and chalk paint. This holiday craft project makes the perfect DIY Christmas tree home decor for the holiday season. Once you have created the Tree you can decorate it any way you like. As usual, I used Dollar Tree embellishments for the perfect holiday touch. If you would like more Dollar Tree projects head over to my Dollar Tree page for more. What you will Need: How to Make DIY Christmas Tree Decor
- 1 package of shims — I got mine at Home Depot
- Small Dollar Tree wood crates
- 2 Dollar Tree snowflakes
- Dollar Tree Christmas Embellishments
- Dollar Tree florals
- White Dollar Tree microfiber Duster pad
- Hot Glue
- Moss Green Chalk Paint
- White Chalk paint
- Java chalk paint
- Crackle Medium
- Dollar Tree floral foam
Step 1: Create the Tree
Determine the size of your tree. I made two sizes. This will dictate how many shims to use. For the tall tree I used 13 shims and 11 shims for the smaller tree. Using hot glue attach the shims with the thicker side at the bottom. Overlap the shims 4″ to create the sides of the tree. I used 5 shims on each side of the tall tree and 4 shims for the small tree. Connect the two sides at the top using hot glue. Attach the bottom shims in the same way by overlapping them. Then, glue the bottom to the sides.
Step 2: Glue the Tree to the Crate
Using hot glue, attach the bottom of the tree to the bottom of the crate. The tree should be able to stand on it’s own.
Step 3: Paint the Tree
Paint all sides of the tree using the java chalk paint. Once dried, cover the tree with crackle medium. Let dry, then cover the tree with moss green chalk paint. Make sure the paint is completely dry. Once the paint is dry, dry brush some white paint on the tree to emulate snow.
Step 4: Paint the Crate
Paint the crate with the java chalk paint. Once again, dry brush some white onto the crate.
Step 5: Add the Microfiber Pad
Hot glue the microfiber pad to the bottom of the tree to emulate snow.
Step 6: Add the Floral Foam
Using hot glue add a piece of floral foam to the top of the microfiber pad in the center of the bottom of the tree.
Step 7: Embellish the Tree
I used a combination of Dollar Tree Greens, Christmas berries, pine cones and snowflakes on the bottom and the top of the tree. I used the floral foam to insert the bottom florals and hot glue to attach the top florals and snowflake ornaments. Once the embellishments are added you have finished your DIY Christmas Tree Decor.
