How to Make a Casserole Cozy

How to Make a casserole Cozy

I am always looking for useful things to sew. I decided that with the holidays not so far away that I would create a hot dish holder or a casserole cozy to make transporting those hot dishes easier and a little prettier. This casserole cozy is super simple to make and can be made to fit any size casserole dish. If you would more of my hot dish holders check out my simple casserole carrier here.

I used some cotton canvas for the outside of my casserole cozy and quilting cotton for the interior. I also used Insul-Bright for the interior. You can get all of these items at JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores , fabric.com or onlinefabricstore.net. What you will Need: How to Make a Casserole Cozy

  • 1/4 yd outer and lining fabric
  • 1/4 yd Insul-Bright
  • Standard sewing supplies
What you will need

Step 1: Cut your Fabrics and Insul-Bright

Cut a piece of each fabric and Insul-Bright to measure 1/4″ larger than your dish. I measured mine to be 16 1/2″ x 12″. You will also need four pieces of fabric and two pieces of Insul-Bright that measure 10″ x 2″ for the handles.

Step 2: Stitch your Fabrics

Place the Insul-Bright on your work station. Lay your outer fabric right sides up on the Insul-Bright and the lining fabric right sides down on the outer fabric. Stitch all the way around the rectangle using a 1/4″ seam allowance but leaving an opening for turning.

Layer your fabrics

Step 3: Turn Right Sides Out

Turn the rectangle right sides out through the opening that you left while stitching. Turn under the opening and press. Topstitch all the way around the rectangle to enclose the opening.

Step 4: Create the Handles.

Layer the Insul-Bright and the fabrics in the same way that you did for the main rectangle. Stitch along both long sides. Turn right sides out and press. Topstitch along both sides. and in the center to secure.

Step 5: Add the Handles

Place the main rectangle so that the side you want facing out when finished is facing up. Pinch each corner and add the ends of the handles into each corner and pin. Stitch along the pin line to secure the handle to the corners. Turn the casserole cozy right sides out.
