How to Make a Double Zipper Mini Pouch
This double zipper mini pouch is a fun little pouch to make. It is perfect to put small things and makeup in. It has two zipper pockets that makes it both fun t make and functional. I love making zipper pouches and this one is no different. It is a pretty simple sewing project even though there are two zippers. A strong beginner should be able to complete this project easily by following the sewing tutorial. I used three different fabrics for this double zipper mini pouch. I purchased all of my fabrics atJOANN Fabric & Craft Stores but you could head to fabric.com or onlinefabricstore.net to get exactly what you need for your zipper pouch. What You will Need: How to Make a Double Zipper Mini Pouch
- Pattern piece that you will get by clicking on this link
- 1/2 yd outer fabric
- 1/2 yd lining fabric
- 1/4 yd accent fabric
- 1/4 yd Fusible fleece
- 8″ zipper
- 4″ zipper
- 1/2″ swivel clip
Step 1: Cut the Fabrics
Outer fabric
- 8 5/8″ x 6 1/8″ — 2 pieces
- 1 1/2″ x 2″ — 2 pieces
- 1 1/2″ x 13 3/4″ — 1 piece
Lining Fabric
- 8 5/8″ x 6 1/8″ — Pieces
Accent Fabric
- 4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ — 2 pieces
Fusible Fleece
Use the pattern piece to cut out two pieces of fusible fleece
Step 2: Fuse the Fleece
Fuse the fleece pieces to the outer fabric pieces in the center. Layer each fabric piece with the corresponding lining piece. Cut around the fleece leaving a 3/8″ seam allowance.
Step 3: Create the Front Pocket
Take the accent pieces and find the center and make a mark on each. Find the center of the 4″ zippered mark on the top and bottom. Lay the accent piece right sides up on your work station. Place the 4″ zipper right sides down on the accent piece matching the centers. Stitch the zipper. Place the other accent piece right sides down on the sewn zipper matching the centers. Stitch the zipper again and stitch the bottom of the pocket piece using a 3/8″ seam allowance. Turn right sides out. topstitch along the zipper.
Step 4: Add the Zipper Pocket
Take one of the outer pieces of fabric and place it right sides up on your work surface with a long edge facing up. Measure down 2″ from the long edge and draw a line. Place the pocket piece wrong sides down with the zipper on the line. Stitch the zipper to the outer piece. Fold the piece down and stitch the sides and bottom using a 1/8″ seam allowance. Clip off any excess zipper tape.
Step 5: Add the Main Zipper
Find the center of the outer piece with the pocket and the center of the zipper. Mark. Place the outer piece right sides up on your work station. Place the zipper right sides down on the outer piece matching the center marks. Lay the lining piece on top of the zipper creating a zipper sandwich. Stitch the zipper through all layers. Repeat for the other side of the zipper using the remaining outer and lining pieces. Press and topstitch on both sides of the zipper.
Step 6: Create the Tabs and Strap
Take the remaining outer pieces and create tabs and a strap. Fold the long raw edges of each piece to the center and press. Fold in half to enclose the raw edges and press. Topstitch on both sides of the tabs. Topstitch on both sides of the strap leaving 2″ from each end unstitched. Place the strap through the swivel clip. Place the ends right sides together and stitch. Re-fold the strap and stitch closed. stitch across the swivel clip to secure.
Step 7: Add the Tabs
Fold the tabs in half. Place them at either end of the zipper and clip. Stitch the tabs in place.
Step 8: Stitch the bottom of the bag
Place the outer pieces right sides together and the lining pieces right sides together. Stitch the bottom of the outer piece using a 3/8″ seam allowance. Stitch the bottom of the lining fabric leaving an opening for turning.
Step 9: Stitch the Sides
Place the bag so that the zipper is in the middle and the corners are aligned as shown. Stitch the sides together using a 3/8″ seam allowance.
Step 10: Box the Corners
Place the side of the outer piece with the bottom of the outer piece to create a straight line. Clip. Place the corresponding lining piece together with the outer piece in the same way and clip. Stitch along the straight line using a 3/8″ seam allowance. Stitch opposing sides first. then repeat for the other two sides.
Step 11: Finish the Double Zipper Mini Pouch
Turn right sides out through through the opening in the lining. Stitch the opening closed using ladder stitch. Add the strap through one of the tabs. you are now finished with your double zipper mini pouch.
