There is nothing like the smell of fresh lemons. But lemons do more than small good they are great for cleaning your whole house. They are a natural alternative to the chemicals typically used to clean our homes and far safer for our environment. Because of their natural deodorizing and disinfectant properties I put together these 10 natural cleaning hacks with lemons to clean your whole house.
What you will Need:
- Fresh lemons
- White vinegar
- Kosher Salt
- Baking Soda
- Water
- Sponge
1. Clean your Microwave
Place 1/2 cup water and the juice of one lemon in a microwave safe bowl. Add the lemon halves to the bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes then wipe down the inside of your microwave. It is as easy as that.
2. Remove Lime Scale
Rub the lime scale with the lemon and let sit over night. Rinse the next day and the lime scale is gone. It is perfect for shining all of the chrome in your house as well.
3. Glass Cleaner
To make the best natural glass and mirror cleaner just place 4 tablespoons of lemon juice in 1/2 gallon of water and place into a spray bottle. Spray on glass and clean as usual.
4. Clean your Wood Cutting Board
Place a few tablespoons of kosher salt onto your cutting board. Rub the salt with lemon then rinse. The lemon and salt mixture cleans and deodorizes your board without the use of chemicals.
5. Clean Shower Doors
Place lemon juice on a clean sponge and wipe down your shower doors. Your doors will be sparkling clean with no soap scum and a nice lemony smell.
6. Clean Grease from your Dishwasher
Simply add a few tablespoons of lemon juice to your sop dispenser with the soap and your dishwasher will be as clean as new.
7. All Purpose Cleaning Spray
Place 1/2 cup of white vinegar and the juice of one lemon together with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle and you have a terrific all purpose cleaner.
8. Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Place 1 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup of baking soda and the juice of 1/2 lemon in a bowl and mix. Use this mixture in your toilet for a clean and disinfected toilet bowl.
9. Stained Plastic
Rub 1/2 lemon onto the stains in your plastic containers and place in the sun to remove the stains and return your containers to like new condition.
10. Drain Cleaner
Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down your drain. Follow that up with a mixture of 1 cup vinegar and 1/2 lemon juiced and let sit for 5 minutes. Flush with hot water for a clean odor free drain.
